Often referred to as an Alsation, the German Shepherd dog is one of the most intelligent and popular breeds in the UK. They can be both a loyal companion as well as a working dog. They are well known for their role in the Police force as a law enforcement or ‘sniffer’ dog.
Their working heritage means they require a good deal of exercise and mental stimulation to remain happy. As a puppy, they can be quite boisterous and they don’t mature until around three years old, so training can often be a long process.
There are a number of health conditions which can affect this breed, mainly due to improper breeding, these include Hip Displacia, congenital blood conditions, heart defects, epilepsy and skin conditions.
