The Beagle should weigh no more than 20kg and measure between 33 and 40cm. They are an ancient English breed and have been popular since the reigns of Henry VIII and Elizabeth I. As they are working dogs they require plenty of exercise they will need plenty of walks - but be careful when letting them off the lead as they have a strong hunting instinct.
They have a short, dense coat - all hound colours are acceptable although they are mostly tri-colour and a quick brush to remove loose hairs will suffice.
